GM Korea President and CEO Sergio Rocha Thursday vowed to further enhance the company’s competitiveness here by improving product quality and customer services, when he celebrated the second anniversary of the launch of the Chevrolet brand here.
“We will strengthen Chevrolet’s competitiveness and growth in Korea,” he said during a news conference at COEX in Seoul. “First and foremost, we will continue introducing new products with segment-leading quality to our valued customers. Chevrolet was, is and will continue to be a major player in the Korean market.”
Recalling the past two years, he said GM Korea has helped Chevrolet become the fastest growing brand globally. The Korean market has grown to be the seventh largest for the brand in the world.
In fact, the automaker’s domestic sales have increased 16 percent since the launch of its Chevrolet brand. It sold 145,702 vehicles last year with its market share jumping to 9.5 percent from 8.1 percent in 2010.
Chevrolet is the world’s fourth-largest car brand by sales, selling more than 4.95 million vehicles in 2012. Of that figure, more than 60 percent of sales come from outside the United States.
Rocha’s emphasis on competitiveness is also in line with its future plan, named “GMK 20XX ― Competitiveness & Sustainability,” which the automaker has recently announced. Its main focus is to improve competitiveness for sustainable growth here, for which GM will also invest about 8 trillion won for its Korean operation over the next five years.
Along with the launch of new models here, Rocha emphasized the importance of customer services for their growth here, saying, “We will continue to put the customer first.”
While commemorating its second anniversary, the automaker will hold various promotions for customers as well as introducing a new customer service program.
First, it has launched the “Chevy Care 3.5.7 Assurance” program in which drivers can replace their cars with new ones if their vehicle is damaged in a collision with another vehicle within three years of purchase.
When a customer is 50 percent or less liable for an accident and the repair cost is 30 percent or more of the vehicle’s purchase price, the customer can request a new vehicle after having the vehicle repaired at a Chevrolet service network facility and return it to GM Korea.
Rocha said he believed the costs for vehicle replacements are good “investment for future growth” in the local market.
In addition, the program will offer a five-year or 100,000-kilometer warranty and 24-hour free roadside assistance for seven years.
GM Korea Vice President of Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Ankush Arora, said the program is a much upgraded customer services from existing “Chevy Care 3.5.7”
“Chevy Care 3.5.7 Assurance will expand the industry-best customer service, demonstrating the value of Chevrolet’s customer-oriented philosophy,” he said.
The “Chevy Care 3.5.7” offers three years of free maintenance, including free engine oil change service, a five-year or 100,000-km warranty and a 24-hour free roadside assistance for seven years.
The company will also hold the Happy 2222 Festival through April 7 to give 2,222 customers 2,222 prizes including Chevrolet cars through lucky draw events
To fulfill its social responsibility, it will also donate 100 vehicles to social welfare organizations and facilities in association with five dealers.
