General Motors Co. and its Chevrolet brand had no involvement in a new Pepsi ad featuring Chevrolet NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon pranking a used car dealer with a wild ride in a Chevy Camaro.
Chevy spokesman Monte Doran said GM was not involved in the making of the commercial and GM and Chevy first saw it earlier this week when it popped up online.
"It was a pretty entertaining video," Doran said. "You have to take it at face value that it was not a real prank. It was a commercial."
Simply put, the ad isn't entirely accurate. The biggie: GM reintroduced the Chevy Camaro as a 2010 model. The ad shows a '09 sticker on the Camaro's window.
Gordon, No. 24, is part of Chevrolet's racing team.
"From that perspective, it's great when he did this advertisement, this viral video for Pepsi, that he included us," Doran said. "But beyond that … we didn't have any role."
Chevy later this month will introduce a refreshed Camaro at the New York International Auto Show.
